New keys, new locks, or just getting back inside.
House work is the steadiest thing I do, and most of it comes down to one question: who else has a key?
Rekey or replace
Rekeying changes the pins inside the lock you already own so the old keys stop working. Replacing means new hardware. If your locks are in good condition, rekeying is almost always the cheaper answer and takes less of my time, which is why I bring it up before I sell anybody a handleset.
Replace when the hardware is worn, corroded or too weak for the door, not because somebody told you a rekey is second best.
Just moved in
Rekey everything. You have no way of knowing how many copies are out there after a sale: previous owners, contractors, cleaners, a neighbour with a spare. It is the one job I recommend without being asked.
Smart locks
I fit keypad and smart deadbolts and I will tell you honestly which ones I think are worth it. A smart lock still needs a decent deadbolt behind the electronics, and a flat battery is a lockout like any other, so keep a mechanical key somewhere sensible.
Gated communities
A lot of Naples is behind a gate, which changes the job. The guard has to let me in, and your HOA may set which hardware is allowed on an exterior door. If you know your association has a standard, tell me on the phone and I will bring something that meets it.
